To repeat the planet's greatest sea voyage of discovery and colonisation brings The First Mariners to Rote Island, the southernmost piece of land of the Continent of Eurasia. Here in February 2020, we will construct an 18 metre long bamboo raft and attempt a 650 km Timor Sea crossing to repeat the first colonisation of Australia.
The First Mariners current project will feature stone tool replicas of the period to be used at every stage of preparations and during the voyage to Australia.
How you can contribute
In an effort to raise expedition funds and still maintain our independence without having to take on corporate and institutional sponsors, we have a standing GoFundMe appeal which keeps the organisation alive. Our next expedition is the February, 2020 crossing of the Timor Sea to celebrate the finding of Australia.
